Passenger misplaces wallet at KIA, tracked down by CISF
Bengaluru: Miami-based Ramesh Chander, who was in the city recently to see his elderly parents and later was on his way to New Delhi for sightseeing, forgot his wallet during security check at Kempegowda International Airport. Chander, however, was spared of anxious moments, thanks to the proactive officers of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) who tracked him down even as he was about to board his flight.

They handed him his wallet before he realised it was missing.
Chander and his wife were to take a 9am flight to the national capital on Feb 15. He went through the security checkpoint at Terminal 1 of KIA, where he had to unload some items on the conveyor belts for scanning. “I put all the items but forgot to keep my wallet for scanning. When I went to the frisking booth, the CISF officer found the wallet on me and told me to go back and place it for scanning. I did so and returned to the booth. After that, I saw my belongings had accumulated at the end of the belt but forgot that my wallet was still to come. I collected the accumulated items and walked away with my wife to the boarding gate,” Chander told STOI.
Chander didn’t realise that his wallet was missing when he dashed to the boarding gate. It had his cards, US driver’s licence, and over Rs 15,000 in cash. “We had half an hour left to board when we were done with the security checks. My wife and I were first busy finding the gate and then getting something to eat as we had left for the airport early in the morning,” he said.
With only a few seconds left to board, Chander was tapped on the shoulder by a “uniformed gentleman” who escorted him to the security checkpoint and told him of the item he had left behind. “All the particulars inside the wallet were intact. I was lucky to have got it back and I’m very thankful for the swift action taken by CISF,” Chander said. He was informed that the officers figured out his location inside the airport based on CCTV footage.
CISF usually sends unclaimed items at the security check to the lost-and-found office at KIA. If unclaimed from there for two weeks, the items are discarded.
